Hail can wreak havoc on your roof, so it’s important to always have your shingles inspected after a storm, but it can be tough to know what to look for. One rule of thumb is If the cars outside are dented from hail, your roof could be in similar shape.
The first step is looking from the ground up to your roof. Sometime you’ll be able to see black marks on your roof if the hail was large enough. These are markings from where the hail hit hard enough to splatter the granules on your shingles. The granules are a protective layer that keeps your shingles from soaking up rain. Without them, you’ll be more prone to leaks, which is why insurance companies will pay to replace your roof after a hailstorm.
What if I can’t see if there’s hail damage?
We recommend calling your local roofer to do a free inspection. Please do not climb onto your roof yourself, as this can be very dangerous. Roofers are skilled in walking roofs and will take lots of photos and mark all the damage with chalk that you cant see from the ground. They can tell you whether you have enough damage to file a claim with your insurance.
What do I do if there’s enough damage on my roof to file a hail claim?
First, you’ll want to call your insurance to schedule an adjustment. We always recommend having a roofer present for the adjustment so you can be sure the insurance adjuster is looking closely at all the damage and can help your claim get approved! Once your claim has been approved, you’re free to shop around for quotes and compare who has the best materials, installation, and warranties for the price your insurance has allotted. Most importantly, you’ll want to find a company you trust.
At Genuine Texas Exteriors, we’re here to help you through this process. We offer free inspections and Roof Siding services in Texas to determine the damage your roof sustained and we’ll walk your roof with the adjuster at no cost to help you get the most out of your claim. Once your documents come in, we’re happy to go over each line item with you so you have a full understanding of what the project entails. Beware any roofer that asks for a signature to help you with your insurance process. We at Genuine Texas Exteriors are happy to help in any way we can, but we’ll never require you to work with us. We want you to choose the right company for you and your family.
